Alveolar decay on calcareous sandstone

Sulphation blistering on oolitic limestone aggravated my mechanical movement

Contour scaling on sandstone

Iron oxide staining on marble, revealing the presence of internal pins and cramps

Stone occurs in bewildering variety. Each type has its own decay patterns, and every decay pattern is extensively modified by working and exposure...

I most certainly do not have a solution for every problem...But I am familiar with most and can offer useful advice on many.

In particular, my practical experience enables me to give independent advice on the choice of a repair strategy :

- Will mortar repairs be viable?

- Is consolidation an option?

- Is piecing-in a dangerous approach?

- What role can be expected from adhesives?

- When is replacement the only option?

- What is a tile repair?
